First of all, nickel-based alloys are a class of special stainless steel, their chemical composition and general stainless steel is significantly different, nickel-based alloys contain higher nickel, chromium and molybdenum and other alloying elements. This type of stainless steel has very good high temperature and corrosion resistance, which cannot be replaced by general stainless steel. Therefore, it can be summarized as the following 3 kinds of dissimilarities:
1、 The function is different
Nickel-based alloy is a special stainless steel, is a high alloy stainless steel containing high nickel, high chromium, high molybdenum. This type of stainless steel will be in the chemical industry, marine environment, wastewater treatment industry and other high requirements, professional use of the region.
Stainless steel is short for stainless acid-resistant steel, resistant to air, steam, water and other weak corrosive media or stainless steel is called stainless steel.
2、High performance
Nickel-based alloys have very good resistance to localized corrosion, in seawater, inflatable, the presence of crevices, low-speed scouring conditions, there is good pitting resistance and good resistance to stress corrosion, is a substitute for Ni-based alloys and titanium alloys. At the same time has more excellent high temperature or corrosion resistance. And stainless steel in this regard is not up to the requirement
3, different classifications
Nickel-based alloy phase organization is a stable austenitic metallurgical organization.
Stainless steel is often classified according to the state of the organization: martensitic steel, ferrite steel, austenitic steel, austenitic – ferrite (duplex) stainless steel and precipitation hardening stainless steel and so on.
Therefore, it is not permissible to choose general stainless steel instead of specialized stainless steel! General stainless steel is not suitable for use in this high temperature or highly corrosive environment. General stainless steel will corrode or oxidize immediately when used in this environment. Therefore, specialized stainless steel must be used in high temperature and corrosion resistant environments.
